Vidigal Wines is a medium‑sized, family‑owned producer of still and fortified wines, based in the Leiria area of central Portugal. The company dates back to the early twentieth century, when a church canon founded a farm that later became the estate. Over the last century it passed through a few owners until the early 1990s, when the current director, António Mendes Lopes, took the helm. Since then Vidigal has embraced major technological upgrades that now enable the production of roughly 3 million bottles a year. With an export rate of about 90 %, the company held the title of best‑selling wine in Norway for five consecutive years – a record never before achieved by any Portuguese product worldwide. Selling around 40 wines in more than 30 countries, Vidigal is undoubtedly one of Portugal’s most internationally active viticultural enterprises. (illustrative image only)
