Vidigal Wines is a family‑run, medium‑sized producer of still and fortified wines, based in the Leiria region of Central Portugal. The company’s origins trace back to the early twentieth century, when a Quain of the Church founded the estate. Over the last century it passed through a couple of owners until the early 1990s, when the current director, António Mendes Lopes, took the helm. Since then, Vidigal has undergone major changes and embraced advanced technology, enabling it to produce roughly 3 million bottles a year. With about 90 % of its production exported, the winery held the title of Norway’s best‑selling wine for five consecutive years—a record never before achieved by any Portuguese product anywhere in the world. Selling around 40 wines in more than 30 countries, Vidigal is undoubtedly one of Portugal’s most internationally recognised wine houses.
