Bons Ares – The Wine The Bons Ares estate is located in the Upper Douro, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. It is a very specific place because of its granite soils and its altitude (600 m), which give the grapes structure, acidity, and an aromatic potential uncommon in this region. This wine from Casa Ramos Pinto is a fine example of innovative tradition – a modern classic. The Year Rainy winter, spring with occasional showers, and a very dry summer. The vegetative cycle was notably early in all stages, thanks to the moisture in the soil and mild spring temperatures. July and August saw high temperatures. At the Bons Ares estate, the white grape harvest began in mid‑August and finished in the third week of September. Vinification The harvest date for each plot is decided after successive on‑field grape tastings. Once decided, the grapes are hand‑harvested and transported to the winemaking centre, where they are sorted by variety and plot. An entire‑cluster cold maceration follows for about 24 hours. The fresh grapes are gently pressed, without crushing, and the must is transferred to underground tanks where it is decanted. Turbidity is adjusted and fermentation begins. About 90 % of the wine ferments and ages in stainless‑steel tanks, while the remaining 10 % is aged in French and Austrian oak barrels of varying capacities for eight months. The wine was bottled at the end of May 2025. Food Pairing The 2024 Bons Ares Branco is an ideal aperitif and pairs wonderfully with shellfish and grilled fish dishes.
