This Bairrada red from the Buçaco Palace estate certainly demands a bit of respect – and perhaps a generous wedge of Serra da Estrela cheese to truly unlock its potential. The Trincadeira adds a welcome robustness alongside its inherent liveliness, while the Merlot-based Merltau lends a touch of elegance. It’s a wine that stays with you, boasting a lingering finish that warrants a second contemplation. While game certainly complements it beautifully, I’d personally pair it with a perfectly roasted lamb – a classic for a reason.
