In the early 19th century, one of Portuguese wine’s most fascinating chapters began with the launch of a wine that would become an icon, highly coveted yet deliberately kept out of the limelight. Its creator, Alexandre de Almeida, brought together luxury hospitality, a cellar and a proprietary wine, giving rise to the rare and historic Buçaco wines, produced in the beautiful Palace of Bussaco in the hills north of Coimbra.
