Description

In the early 19th century, one of Portuguese wine’s most fascinating chapters began with the launch of a wine that would become an icon, highly coveted yet deliberately kept out of the limelight. Its creator, Alexandre de Almeida, brought together luxury hospitality, a cellar and a proprietary wine, giving rise to the rare and historic Buçaco wines, produced in the beautiful Palace of Bussaco in the hills north of Coimbra. These wines eschew modernism and offer an exceptional ageing potential, remaining in the bottle for decades. (illustrative image only)
