Recognizing the immense potential of Cantanhede’s land for producing superior‑quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with roughly 700 active viticulturist members and an average annual grape production of 6 to 7 million kilograms, the cooperative is the leading producer in the Bairrada Demarcated Region, accounting for 30–40% of the region’s total output and certifying about 80% of its own production. It is a standout leader in sales of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines. (illustrative image only)
