Description

Family‑owned Cândido da Silva estate, Quinta da Carolina is located in the demarcated Douro region, within the Cima Corgo sub‑region, on the left bank of the Douro River, 4 km south of Pinhão. The vineyard faces north and features a 40‑year‑old old‑vine plot entirely of “A” class vines, planted with the classic Douro varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Carvalha, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, Sousão, Rufete, Tinta Melra, Malvasia Preta, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Francisca and Bastardo. Since the late 1990s it has been steered by the renowned Californian winemaker Jerry Luper, and currently by winemaker Luís Pedro Cândido da Silva. With limited production, the Cândido da Silva family positions itself as a producer of “vins de garage”, crafting careful, sincere, and top‑quality wines. (illustrative image only)
