This Cartuxa Scala Coeli Verdelho is clearly a wine that’s spent some serious time relaxing in the Alentejo. The Verdelho grapes, famed for their ageing potential, deliver a surprisingly refined character – think ripe dried fruits and a hint of spice, undoubtedly influenced by the region’s rich terroir. It’s a remarkably fresh wine for its age, and would pair wonderfully with a hearty, slow-roasted beef or, perhaps even better, with a perfectly cooked steak accompanied by wild mushrooms.
