This Casa Américo white from the Dão certainly appears to have taken a long, contemplative nap – and it shows! Crafted with painstaking manual harvesting and a near-medieval level of patience, this wine employs full-cluster pressing followed by a frankly intense maceration (10°C and 10 hours!) to coax every ounce of complexity from its Alvarinho and Vilariça grapes. Maturation in both stainless steel and 400L French oak barrels with batonnage adds a surprising smoothness and texture, delivering a truly exceptional "white gold" of the Dão. Wonderful with grilled fish and lemon, or perhaps some delicious "gemas de sol" (sun yolks).
