“This wine from Casa da Passarella is a remarkable ‘resurrection’ of the Dão, worthy of a period drama. Born from the ashes of a centuries-old wine story – a truly fascinating one stretching back to the 19th century – it almost faded from memory. The winemaking, employing key varieties like Baga, Touriga Nacional and, of course, Alfrocheiro, reflects the passion of a producer who sought to be ‘abandoned’ by the world, yet ultimately wanted to ‘do good’. And remarkably, it’s been awarded the coveted P63 by José Maria da Fonseca, suggesting the region’s vibrant wine spirit remains very much alive. It’s a superb match for rich beef dishes with a hint of spice, perfectly celebrating the heritage of this exceptional wine.”
