Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas and later carried on by Germana and Ermelinda Freitas, the house has always given special attention to its wines. From the first generation, the focus was on the quality of the vineyards and the wines, initially produced and sold in bulk without a brand. The major change came under current manager Leonor Freitas, who, in 1997, ushered in a new era for this century‑old family business, producing and bottling the first wine under the name Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
