Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas, the winery was later carried on by Germana Freitas and then by Ermelinda Freitas, all of whom devoted special attention to the wine. From the very first generation, the house has bet on the quality of its vineyards and wines, which were originally produced and sold in bulk without a proprietary brand. It was under the current management that a major shift occurred—creating its own labels—and in 1997 a new cycle began with the first wine produced and bottled by Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
