The Casa Santos Lima, headquartered in the municipality of Alenquer, was founded in 1991 to continue the wine‑making activity of the Santos Lima family, which began in the late nineteenth century under Joaquim Santos Lima, who at the time was one of Portugal’s largest wine producers and exporters. In 1996 the company started bottling its wines, which had previously been sold in bulk. Today, with more than 200 hectares of vineyards, Casa Santos Lima is the region’s leading producer, accounting for over 30 % of Lisbon’s certified wine production. With a strong focus on internationalisation, Casa Santos Lima—one of the biggest drivers of wine export—is exporting more than 90 % of its wines to roughly 40 markets. (illustrative image)
