The wine from Colares is unique in the world. Its terroir, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, produces wines with extraordinary salinity and complex aromas that deepen with bottle ageing. The house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In the early years its sales were mainly in the Lisbon region and for large‑scale export to Brazil. It was later run by his son, also named António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Junior, and now by his grandson António Bernardino Paulo da Silva, whose sales focus not only on the domestic market but also on exporting wines to various countries in Europe and the United States.
