The wine of Colares is characterized by being unique in the world. The terroir, with strong Atlantic influence, results in wines with extraordinary salinity, as well as complex aromas that improve with the wine's aging in the bottle. This house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In the early years, its sales were mainly focused on the Lisbon region and large-scale export to Brazil. Following his son, also named António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Jr., and currently his grandson António Bernardino Paulo da Silva, its sales today are not only in the domestic market but largely in exporting wines to various European countries and the United States of America.
