Colares wine is unique in the world. The terroir, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, produces wines with extraordinary saltiness as well as complex aromas that improve with bottle ageing. This house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In its early years, its sales were basically concentrated in the Lisbon region and in large-scale exports to Brazil. It was then carried on by his son, also named António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Júnior, and today by his grandson, António Bernardino Paulo da Silva. Its sales now focus not only on the domestic market but, to a large extent, on exports of wine to several countries in Europe and the United States of America.
