In 1927, eleven partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves founded Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which now boasts over 80 years of history. The company began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa, and Europe, and today more than half of its production is destined for export, especially wines, sparkling wines, and brandies—an image that represents Aliança in Portugal and in around 60 export markets. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired the majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group and changing the corporate name from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., alongside a redesign of its institutional image. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine companies, has built a solid reputation and won the preference of both domestic and international consumers through a wide range of wines. With operations in seven Portuguese wine regions, a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 grape varieties, and four wine centers (cellars), the company stands out in the market for its scale and its 70 % autonomy in own production.
