The Caves da Cerca were founded in the early twentieth century as the personal project of Albano de Carvalho Sardoeira, who owned several vineyard plots in the municipality of Amarante. Trained in physical‑chemical sciences, he chose to bottle the wine from his own estates, building a small cellar on his property that houses an 8th‑century house known as Casa da Cerca. In 1946 he registered the brand under the same name, adopting it for the cellar and later using it as the company’s legal name. His wines and brandies, “Casa da Cerca,” quickly earned prestige and notoriety, collecting awards at local, national, and even international exhibitions and fairs. (illustrative image only)
