This is a 100‑year‑old Tawny Port by winemaker João Nicolau de Almeida, made in honour of Manoel de Oliveira, produced on the filmmaker’s own estate, Quinta da Portelinha, in Santa Marta de Penaguião. It aged in a single 600‑litre cask and only 300 bottles were made, with a label designed by Álvaro de Siza Vieira. According to the winemaker, the wine is so rich that each tasting reveals it in a new way. In this world of complexity, the colour shifts through various shades, from topaz, yellow and gold to the greenish hue of older wines, reflecting long and good ageing. On the nose the first impression is soft and subtle, then unfurling aromas of mulberry, quince, tobacco, apricot, walnut, caramel, anise and orange blossom—a never‑ending sequence of scents. The bottling year may not match the image shown. (illustrative image only)
