Chocapalha Estate is located in Aldeia Galega, in Alenquer, within the Lisbon Region. Although regarded as a relatively young producer in terms of bottled wines, the estate’s records date back to the 16th century, during the reign of King João VI. The fortunes of this centuries‑old house changed dramatically when it was acquired by the Tavares da Silva family in the 1980s. The family quickly invested heavily in the vineyard and winemaking facilities, with the sole aim of achieving maximum quality while preserving the reputation that the estate has always enjoyed. Everything was in place for Sandra Tavares da Silva—an acclaimed producer from the Douro and daughter of the Tavares da Silva estate—to take the reins of the house’s oenology. It soon became clear that this estate would produce beautiful wines and, at the same time, become one of the most important and best producers in the Lisbon Region. In its 45 hectares of vineyards, the estate produces both whites and reds from national varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Arinto, as well as international ones like Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines are indeed among the best in the region and a delight at the table.
