Maison Moët & Chandon, founded in 1743, is one of the largest champagne producers in the world. The “House” produces two million cases of champagne annually and, in 1962, became the first producer to be listed on the French stock exchange. The name Chandon was added to the company when Jean‑Remy Moët transferred half of the company to his son‑in‑law Pierre‑Gabriel Chandon of Briailles in 1832, and the other half to his son, Victor Moët. In 1840 the brand introduced the concept of vintage champagne, launching the first vintage in 1842. Its most famous label, Dom Pérignon, is a worldwide reference that honors the famed Benedictine monk, the “father of Champagne.” Maison Moët & Chandon merged with Hennessy, the cognac house, in 1971 and with Louis Vuitton in 1987 to become LVMH (Louis‑Vuitton‑Moët‑Hennessy), the largest luxury goods group in the world.
