Southwest France, or in French Sud-Ouest, is a wine region that covers several wine‑growing areas located both inland and south of the Bordeaux wine region. The areas closest to Bordeaux produce wines in a style similar to Bordeaux’s, using largely the same grape varieties. Further south, the wines remain fairly comparable to Bordeaux, though they include less common Bordeaux varieties such as Tannat. Finally, in the areas nearest the Pyrenees, the wines are made from local varieties like Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng. (Illustrative image)
