Château Latour 2009 was a year of exceptionally high‑quality wines. The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, year after year, can deliver the depth, elegance, and concentration we expect from the Grand Vin. Here the Cabernet Sauvignon (making up over 90 % of the batch) reaches its full expression in terms of colour, richness, and freshness. These wines require time—often a decade—before they begin to reveal their full tasting potential. After a relatively rainy early spring, 2009 will be remembered for an exceptionally hot and dry summer, even more sun‑laced than 2005. The cool early spring caused a slower vine growth. From May onward, the year was marked by monthly temperatures well above seasonal averages, allowing the vines to recover the lag. The excellent summer climate was only interrupted by a few stormy periods in July, which prevented the soil from replenishing its water reserves. This deficit intensified in August and September. Shortly after the painter (??—likely a typo or mis‑translation), the vines began to show significant stress. The very dry conditions in early September led to concentrated berries, already small. Rain on September 19 and 20 proved very beneficial for tannin refinement. Harvest began on Wednesday, September 23, and continued until October 1, under magnificent sunshine and in perfect sanitary conditions.
