The Colares wine is characterized by being unique in the world. The terroir, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, yields wines with extraordinary salinity, as well as complex aromas that improve with bottle ageing. This house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In its early years, sales were mainly focused on the Lisbon region and on large-scale exports to Brazil. It was later taken over by his son, also named António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Jr., and currently by his grandson António Bernardino Paulo da Silva; today, sales are not only directed at the domestic market but also heavily toward exporting wines to various European countries and the United States.
