Colares wine is renowned for being unique in the world. The terroir, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, yields wines with an extraordinary salinity and complex aromas that deepen with bottle ageing. This house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In its early years the sales were mainly in the Lisbon area and on a large scale to Brazil. It was later taken over by his son, António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Júnior, and currently by his grandson, António Bernardino Paulo da Silva. Today the business focuses not only on the domestic market but also on a substantial export of wines to several European countries and the United States.
