Colares wines are an unparalleled paradox in Portugal. From the vines, which have not been affected by Phylloxera thanks to being planted on sandy soils, to the distinct quality these wines hold. The unique characteristics of Colares wine stem from its grape varieties, soil, and a temperate, humid summer climate, as well as the fact that 80% of the vines are planted on sandy soils, following traditional viticultural practice. Colares wine only reaches its maximum quality after several years, although the minimum ageing period is 18 months. Because of this, its distribution is very limited.
