According to its age, the wines may show signs of aging such as dust on the bottles and/or some damage to the labels—common in bottles that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar ensures that all wines are stored at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always maintains the visual appearance appropriate to their age. We usually select the brands/regions that perform well in old‑wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism that, like everything else, is exposed to time, and even within a bottle its aromas can evolve in different ways. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the quality of an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe first; this will help release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image only)
