The story of Bodega Contador began in 1995 when Benjamin Romeo, winemaker and grape grower, acquired a cave with centuries of history, carved into the rock beneath the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja. In 2008, Benjamin completed his brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art cellar, built on the Rioja hills and surrounded by his vineyards. Benjamin’s wine production is relatively modern, with individual vineyard plots cultivated to very low yields and vinified separately before aging for a relatively short period of 18 to 20 months in new French oak.
