“This Contraste Magnum, meticulously harvested by Vinhas Velhas, reveals a character that’s both immediately inviting and impressively layered. The grapes, nurtured in small parcels, undergo a gentle handling, setting the stage for a carefully controlled fermentation and a series of lees stirring that truly unlocks the potential of the indigenous Portuguese grapes. A prolonged maceration – a full week – concentrates the aromas beautifully, followed by a malolactic fermentation which adds a welcome complexity. Maturing for 18 months in used French oak barrels has gifted the wine a refined elegance, making it a superb partner for a perfectly grilled beef.”
