According to its age, wines may show marks left by time, such as dust on the bottles and/or damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar is committed to storing all wines at the proper temperature and humidity, but it always chooses to preserve the visual appearance that comes with age. We generally select brands and regions that perform well in competitions for aged wines. However, wine is a living organism, exposed to time, and even inside a bottle its aromas evolve. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, given that it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open the bottle and let it breathe first, which will help release the wine’s natural aromas after many years of closure. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image)
