Description

In 1988, a Danish and an American couple set sail on a sailboat in search of a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard, and produce wine. A fairy‑tale dream that launched the story of Cortes de Cima, now one of Portugal’s leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family‑run estate managed day‑to‑day by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, spanning 140 hectares of vines planted with Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz, and Verdelho. The oldest vines were planted in 1991, before Syrah was allowed in the region’s regulations. Still, Hans, convinced the climate and soil were ideal for this Rhône variety, created the first non‑licensed Syrah in 1998, marketed as Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and earned medals in London, Brussels, and Bordeaux.
