In 1988, a couple consisting of a Dane and an American set sail in a sailboat in search of a place to start a family, plant a vineyard and produce wine. A dream out of a fairy tale that gave birth to the story of the Cortes de Cima company, today one of Portugal's leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family-owned property run daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, with an area of 140 hectares of vines, where the grape varieties Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz and Verdelho are planted. The oldest vineyards were planted in 1991, when the Syrah variety was not permitted by regional regulations. Still, Hans, convinced that the climate and soil were ideal for this Rhône variety, created the first Syrah wine, unlicensed, produced in 1998 and marketed under the name Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and won medals in London, Brussels and Bordeaux.
