Description

In 1988, a Danish man and an American woman set sail on a sailboat in search of a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard, and produce wine. A fairy‑tale dream that gave rise to Cortes de Cima, now one of Portugal’s leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, the family estate is run daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen over 140 ha of vines planted with Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz, and Verdelho. The oldest vines were planted in 1991, when regulations in the region still prohibited Syrah. Still, Hans, convinced the climate and soil were ideal for this Rhône variety, produced the first Syrah in 1998 under the unregistered name Incógnito, which quickly gained notoriety in Portugal and earned medals in London, Brussels, and Bordeaux.
