Description

In 1988, a Danish man and an American woman set sail on a sailboat in search of a place to start a family, plant a vineyard, and make wine. A fairy‑tale dream that marked the beginning of the Cortes de Cima story, which today is one of Portugal’s leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family‑run estate managed daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, covering 140 hectares of vines planted with Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz, and Verdelho. The oldest vines were planted in 1991, at a time when Syrah was not permitted by regional regulations. Still, Hans, convinced the climate and soil were ideal for this Rhône variety, produced the first non‑authorized Syrah in 1998 under the name Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and earned medals in London, Brussels, and Bordeaux.
