Description

In 1988 a Danish‑American couple set sail on a yacht in search of a place to start a family, plant a vineyard, and produce wine—a fairytale dream that launched the story of Cortes de Cima, now one of Portugal’s leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, the family‑run estate, managed daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, covers 140 hectares planted with Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz, and Verdelho. The oldest vines were planted in 1991, before Syrah was permitted in the region; still, Hans, convinced the climate and soil were ideal for the Rhône variety, produced the first unofficial Syrah in 1998, sold as Incógnito, which quickly gained acclaim in Portugal and earned medals in London, Brussels, and Bordeaux.
