Since 1895, Carvalho, Ribeiro & Ferreira, LDA has been producing wines and spirits. In the early 1980s it launched its vineyard development plan. The estate owns vineyards in the Dão – Quinta do Serrado, Torres Vedras – Quinta da Folgorosa, and Colares – Tavares & Rodrigues. At Quinta do Serrado, C.R.&F. vinifies its own production from about 10 hectares. Quinta da Folgorosa has roughly 45 hectares, some of which is bottled as estate wine while the surplus goes into other table wines. In Colares, a renaissance of the famed Colares wines is underway, with about 10 hectares in full production. Since 1992, the company has been experimenting with micro‑vinification to gauge how these wines evolve under different winemaking conditions. Internally restructured since 1991, it now seeks to deliver quality products at competitive prices. (Illustrative image only)
