Description

If there has been a revolution in Spanish winemaking, Daniel Landi is one of its leading figures. He grew up in a family of vintners in Méntrida, earning a reputation at Bodegas Jiménez Landi before venturing on his own projects. The steep peaks and towns perched atop the slopes of the Gredos Range, dotted with thick shrub patches and large granite boulders, were primarily known for simple, rustic wines. The vines cling to the slopes like mountain goats; many of these sites have been abandoned for decades, but a new generation of producers is rediscovering them. Daniel works on about seven hectares of vines aged 60 to 80 years. High altitude, freely draining soils, and a long growing season create a unique micro‑climate. The winemaking is low‑intervention: he uses whole‑cluster proportions, large old oak barrels, and minimal extraction, simply macerating the grapes. (illustrative image only)
