Joana and António Maçanita had long harboured a dream: to create a wine with its own character and personality, just like the two brothers and winemakers. The opportunity arose in the Douro, where Joana carries out part of her professional activity. Amidst terraces and high vineyards she discovered a very special raw material that she couldn’t ignore; she called António and challenged him. In 2011 the Maçanita brothers laid the roots for their Douro project. The vines are located in the Douro, the Cima Corgo sub‑region, near Pinhão. They were carefully chosen to fit the right profile—grapes with great concentration, richness, and freshness. Together, the brothers walk through the vineyards, overseeing the critical operations that ensure the quality and health of the fruit. With a low‑intervention enology, extracting colour and structure in a gentle, slow manner, the Maçanita wines are a pure expression of “à Maçanita” winemaking, putting the fruit first.
