Joana and António Maçanita had long dreamed of creating a wine with its own character and personality, true to the brothers’ style as winemakers. The opportunity arose in the Douro, where Joana works part of her professional life. While navigating terraces and lofty vines, she discovered a truly special raw material that she could not ignore, and she called António to challenge him. In 2011 the Maçanita brothers planted the roots for their Douro project. Their vines are located in the Cima Corgo sub‑region of the Douro, near Pinhão. They were carefully selected to match the right profile—grapes with intense concentration, richness, and freshness. Together the brothers oversee the vines, carrying out decisive operations to ensure quality and vine health. With a low‑intervention approach, extracting colour and structure gently and slowly, Maçanita wines are the pure expression of “à Maçanita” enology, putting fruit above all.
