The Confurons, Yves, Jean-Pierre, and the patriarch Jacky are the current generations of a very old Burgundy family, with even references to this family in the court of Louis XIV. The domaine is run by Yves and Jean Pierre, although the soul of it is Yves, who splits his time between this domaine and Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. The family is very united and Father Jacky always lends a hand when he can. There are several qualities that make this producer special. Firstly, unlike most Burgundy growers, Yves harvests much later, waiting for the Pinot Noir to be well‑matured; when he collects it, he does so at 100 % yield, seeking freshness and finesse. Secondly, he follows a purist approach, avoiding any intervention that would harm the vines or the grapes, coupled with an almost obsessive rigor. The result is a great wine that may initially seem “too” generous, but with half a dozen years becomes magistral. As a curiosity, and a distinction no other family holds, there is a Burgundy Pinot Noir variety called Pinot Confuron. (illustrative image)
