The Confuron, Yves, Jean-Pierre, and patriarch Jacky are the current generations of a very old Burgundy family, even referenced in the court of Louis XIV. The domaine is run by Yves and Jean‑Pierre, though the soul of it is Yves, who splits his time between the domaine and Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. The family is tightly knit and Jacky always lends a hand when he can. Several factors make this producer special. First, unlike most Burgundy growers, Yves waits much later to harvest, ensuring the Pinot Noir is very ripe, and then harvests at 100 % juice, seeking freshness and finesse. Second, he follows a purist philosophy, avoiding any intervention that harms the vines or grapes, coupled with an almost obsessive rigor. The result is great wines that may initially seem “too” indulgent but, after a few years, become truly masterful. As a curiosity, and with no other family holding this honor, there is a Pinot Noir variety in Burgundy called Pinot Confuron (illustrative image only).
