Little remains to say, or to write, about the most renowned and envied of all Burgundy producers, and of the world. The history of the Domaine intertwines with that of the Côte de Nuits itself, spanning eras and fashions until reaching today. The Societé Civile du Domaine de la Romanée Conti (DRC) is managed by two families, Leroy and Villaine, represented respectively by Henry‑Frederic Roch, nephew of Mme Lalou Bize‑Leroy, and Aubert de Villaine. The Domaine encompasses about 29 ha of vineyards, mostly Grand Crus. Among the Grand Crus are the Monopólios of Romanée‑Conti and La Tache, and parcels in Le Montrachet, Echézeaux, Grands‑Echézeaux, Richebourg, Romanée Saint‑Vivant, and since 2009 in Corton Renards, Corton Bressandes, and Corton Clos du Roi. There are also vineyards in Bâtard‑Montrachet and Vosne Romanée (Les Gaudichots, Les Petits Monts, and Aux dessus des Malconsorts), which yield extremely rare wines, and in the case of Bâtard‑Montrachet, they are not even sold. As a curiosity, all the Domaine’s vineyards are biological and follow biodynamic principles. The maestro of all this work is Mr Bernard Noblet, the house’s chief enologist—a tall man of austere appearance but great rigor and focus. He says the DRC is primarily an experimental Domaine where there are still about 25 years of wine bottled, with experiments on the most diverse perspectives. The wines are absolutely brilliant in their purity, precision, and lightness. They have immense aging potential, some even requiring a good decade in the cellar before revealing all their glory.
