In 1896, after touring wine regions in France, the young agronomist engineer Marcel Ott reached the Mediterranean shores and finally discovered the wine area that inspired him most: Provence. At the heart of this famous wine region, one of France’s oldest, lies a long tradition of grape cultivation. Yet, at the end of the 19th century, after a phylloxera outbreak, the vineyards were replanted very quickly, and the resulting wines had little appeal. With fierce determination, Marcel Ott began replanting all the estates with quality grape varieties so that Provence’s great wines could flourish again—authentic wines worthy of a thousand years of tradition.
