Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas and later run by Germana Freitas and Ermelinda Freitas, the family has always devoted special attention to wine. From the very first generation, the house prized the quality of its vineyards and wines, which were initially produced and sold in bulk without a brand. The major shift came under current manager Leonor Freitas, and in 1997 a new era began for the centuries‑old family business, with the first wine produced and bottled under the name Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
