Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas, the estate was continued by Germana Freitas and later by Ermelinda Freitas, all of whom have always given special attention to the wine. From the first generation, this house has invested in the quality of its vines and wines, which were originally produced and sold in bulk without a label. Under the current management of Leonor Freitas, a major change took place, and in 1997 a new chapter began for this century‑old family business, with the first wine produced and bottled under the name Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
