This Douro wine from Dona Matilde is clearly a love letter to its ‘Vinhas Velhas’ – and, it seems, to the local wildlife. The colour is a deep ruby, brimming with aromas of ripe plum compote, underscored by a hint of rosemary reflecting the surrounding scrubland and the resinous touch of pine needles. On the palate, elegance and finesse reign, supported by smooth tannins and a luxurious texture – perfect alongside a hearty roasted beef, perhaps with a robust trout. A well-deserved 92-point wine, best enjoyed with a thoughtful appreciation.
