A red wine that is half Portuguese and half Spanish, it is partly produced with the Portuguese grape Touriga Nacional from Quinta das Tecedeiras, located in the Douro, and with the Spanish grape Cariñena from the Priorat region. Thus, the two regions are combined, giving rise to the name Dovrat (Douro + Priorat). In 1989, the confidence of three young people led to the creation of a company based on Quinta de Cabriz, situated in Carregal do Sal, in the heart of the Dão region. After reviving old vines and planting new ones, the company gradually evolved into consolidation, clearly evident with the construction of an enotourism complex in 1998. Other regions followed, notably in the Douro with Quinta Sá de Baixo and Quinta das Tecedeiras, in the Bairrada with Quinta do Encontro, in the Estremadura with Quinta do Gradil, in the Alentejo with Monte da Cal and in northeastern Brazil with Rio Sol, designated as united regions. Thus, Dão Sul emerges with dynamism and ambition in favor of quality and innovation. (illustrative image only)
