In 1927, eleven partners led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves decided to establish Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), giving the company a history of more than 80 years. From the outset, Aliança began exporting immediately to Brazil, Africa, and Europe, and today over half of its production is destined for export—primarily wines, sparkling wines, and brandy—making the brand well known in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries worldwide. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing the winery under the Grupo Bacalhôa umbrella. The corporate name was changed from Caves Aliança S.A. to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., and a new institutional image was introduced. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine companies, has built a broad portfolio of wines that has earned it a solid reputation and the loyalty of both domestic and international consumers. With operations in seven Portuguese wine regions covering a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 grape varieties, and four cellar sites, the company stands out in the market for its size and for achieving 70 % of its production independently.
