In 1861, in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Penedès, the Sala family launched a venture to produce and export quality wines. In the early 20th century, the marriage of Dolores Sala to Pedro Ferrer revolutionised the business, blending Dolores’s oenological expertise with Pedro’s commercial acumen. From that union emerged the Freixenet brand, one of the largest Cava producers, whose first bottle under the name was released in 1911. Since that inaugural release to today, the brand has stayed true to its values; today, in addition to its own grapes, Freixenet is also sourced from more than 2,000 local growers, making it one of the world’s most emblematic sparkling‑Cava houses.
