Aware of Cantanhede’s vast potential for producing superior quality wines, a group of 100 farmers founded the Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede in 1954. Today, with around 700 active viticulturist members and an average annual grape production of 6 to 7 million kilos, this cooperative is the main producer in the Bairrada Demarcated Region, accounting for 30 to 40 % of the region’s total output and certifying roughly 80 % of its production. It is a leading seller of DOC Bairrada and IG Beira Atlântico wines.
